I love thee - I love thee,
'Tis all that I can say
It is my vision in the night,
My dreaming in the day.
~ Thomas Hood
I always love the week before Valentine's Day,
as it's filled with chocolates, lots of
cookie baking, and a general feeling
of love and giddiness in the air.
This week has been just a little different,
as I've spent the last few days being sick -
which is certainly no fun - so I hope to have
at least a few days of feeling better to enjoy
some of the festivities.
You may have noticed that we added
some lovelies to the shop last Friday -
and we've also added a few more spots
for our "Glinda the Good Witch" Sock Kit,
so those are also posted in the shop at this time.
PLEASE NOTE: You must pre-register for
this kit (if you didn't register back in November)
by emailing us at jennifer@woolgirl.com.
Soon we will be announcing the details of our
Oz Sock Club, so if you are on our email
newsletter list, details will be included there,
AND we will also include details here on the blog
and on our website in the next couple of weeks.
Valentine's Day also gives me a good excuse to
enjoy some of my favorite candy - conversation hearts.
Since they're only around once a year,
I always try to stock up just a little bit
to get me through until next Valentine's Day.
Apparently they are made throughout the year,
but I can never seem to find them here.
Do you know what Sweethearts Conversation Hearts
were originally called?
They were created in 1866
by Daniel Chase, and were originally called
something other than conversation hearts.
Guess correctly and you will be entered
to win 2 skeins of sock yarn from the shop
(one from Neighborhood Fiber, the other
from Yarn Daze), as well as a
Valentine's Day gift box filled with
conversation hearts, a Valentine themed
gift bag, and a set of Valentine cards.
The winner will be announced this Friday!
Happy Valentine's Week!

In the mid-1860's, I believe they were called "cockles", and became Sweethearts" in 1900.
Wow, and I did that before I had my coffee...

FEEL BETTER SOON!!!!
Sweet Hearts...not the first to respond. But did you know that the first “conversation” candies were not in the shape of hearts but rather were shells. The text were inscribed on a foil wrapper and not the candy itself.
We always discover such interesting things with your contests Jen.

I am going with motto candies, but I was torn between that and cockles (which although not heart shaped they started with). I must add that I LOVE them. They are one of my favorite candies.
