Follow the Yellow Brick Road Wednesday

Yellow_brick_road

Follow the Yellow Brick Road! Follow the Yellow Brick Road! Follow the, follow the, follow the, follow the, follow the Yellow Brick Road!

You must remember the words to one of the popular songs in the Wizard of Oz, right? This week is all about the Wizard of Oz, as we have a new line of yarns coming in from Curious Creek Fibers with a whole new set of colors called the "Oz" series, and boy are they yummy!

We welcome "Meru" to Woolgirl this Sunday! "Meru" is the new 51% Wild Tussah Silk/49% Merino Wool lace weight yarn from Curious Creek Fibers, and it's super fantastic to knit with. And with 495 yards per skein and just $22-24 per skein (depending upon the colorway), it's a super great deal too!

Maybe you'll want to try your hand at knitting the Cloud scarf
by Lucy Neatby. Check out how gorgeous it is in the new Emerald City "Meru"...

And as a side note...one skein of "Meru" is more than enough to knit the Cloud scarf.

Remember the Tin Man?

and the Good Witch? (I think this is my favorite color!)

and Scarecrow...we can't forget him!

Scarecrow

and another of my favorites is, of course, Yellow Brick Road...

Be sure to check out the series this Sunday at Woolgirl! We will also have several other new colorways from Curious Creek available (more on this Friday), as well as some of the Fraternal Twin Socklet kits and the Fair Isle Footlets.

Oh, and because I'm such a HUGE Wizard of Oz fan, we're having an "Oz" contest today too. :) How fun is that? And how well do you know your Wizard of Oz trivia? "We'll see about that, my pretty, now won't we?" Ha! Ha!

OK, so here's the question:

Remember the pretty colored horses in the Emerald City? What substance was used to color them in the movie? A hint: It's food related!

Get this answer correct, and you could win a fun prize from Curious Creek Fibers AND there will be 2 winners this week! What are the winning prizes, you ask? The first winning prize is a fantastic "Meru" sampler which includes a sampler of 16 colors, including the "Oz" colorways, totaling almost 600 yards (imagine what a fun project you could create with this!)...

and the 2nd prize is a "Wasonga" sampler (also from Curious Creek) and also with 16 colors. This sampler has enough yarn to knit the fantastic Fair Isle Footlets or Fraternal Twin Socklets (and the patterns will be included)...

Both winners will also receive some soaps from Woolgirl (and we've got some wonderful soaps right now!)

Happy "I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore" Wednesday!

Jell-o!

That would be gelatin. :)

I love those yarns!

Gelatin.

Jello that the horses supposedly kept trying to lick off.

They were coloured with Jell-O.

Gelatin was used to colour the horses! Maybe I can convince my husband to try this on our dogs....he wants to used permanent hair dye to add lightning stripes. Ugh!

Gelatin! Too bad this was before the days of television--otherwise can you imagine the fun of Bill Cosby doing a Jell-O ad with those horses! :) I suspect none of the coloring/dye techniques used in Oz would pass code today! :) Now....i'm clicking my ruby-red slippers together three times, "There's no place like home for that yarn. There's no place like home for that yarn."

YEAH! We are huge Wizard of Oz fans - my son played the scarecrow in the High School's musical of Wizard of Oz and we watch that DVD (of the HS production)of it alot and just recently saw bought my mother in law a DVD player so she could have her own copy of it. We do own the original too and watched it for the billionith time recently. Anyway, the answer is gelatin. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this contest!! It sure is hard to type.

The poor horses had jello painted on them. What a tasty dye job!

Jello!

Jello! How awesome is that :) Love the new colors!!

There's always room for Jello crystals. ;-)

Jell-o

Love the new colors especially Good witch and Tin man...yummy.
As for the contest I will go with the crowd and say gelatin.

I had a lot of fun reading up on the movie in order to learn more about it, so thank you! Jello! Who knew? I didn't, until tonight.

the answer is definitely gelatin as the ASPCA wouldn't let them use anything else

Jello crystals

Gelatin... *drools* over the yarn, of course!! So beautiful!

As the rest of the crowd is answering, they were dyed with colored gelatin - I actually knew that already. :)

They dyed the horses with gelatin. I am loving those Wizard of Oz inspired colorways. Gorgeous!

My answer is: gelatin.

I love the yellow brick road colorway! How fun! And the answer is colored gelatin.

They used Gelatin to color the horses. My all time fvorite movie!! We have been singing the "Yellow Brick ROad" song at school
all week! Can't wait to see the yarn!

Gelatin was used. As a side note, my 10-year-old son is a huge Wizard of Oz fan. He has loved the movie since he was two and I even took him to see Wicked last year.

Oh, yum...lovely yarn. I am a big fan of the Good Witch blue but the Yellow Brick Road is gorgeous, too.

And...just to add to the chorus...the horses were dyed with gelatin.
