Candy, Candy, Who's Got the Candy Contest

M_and_m_heart

Valentine's Day is certainly big on candy, isn't it? From about 6 different types of conversation hearts (there only used to be one type!), to 10 different flavors of the Hershey's Kiss, we certainly have perfected the art of Valentine's Candy. You can even get M&M's in about any color you want now - including the ever popular pink. Love that! Of course they also come in dark chocolate, peanut butter filled, almond filled, etc. We are the land of options, now aren't we?

So, is Valentine's Day the biggest holiday for candy sales in the United States? Well, you would think maybe it is, with all of the velvet-covered boxes of chocolate being purchased to say "I love you" - but in fact, it's not. Truth be told, Valentine's Day only ranks 4th in candy sales overall! Can you believe that?

So, which holiday is considered the biggest sugar-saturated holiday and leads the pack with the most candy sales? Can you guess which one it is? Guess correctly and your name will be thrown into our random name picker (ie, our random number generator) to win a box full of goodies - including about 8 different types of Valentine's Day candy (to celebrate our theme this week), a skein of some of my favorite sock yarn, and a set of knitting cards made by yours truly!

Best of luck! The winner will be announced this Friday!

Also on Friday I'll have some news about our Sunday shop updates along with some fun extras, so we hope to see you back then!

Happy Wednesday!

This seems kind of obvious to me -- so it is probably wrong, but I would think Halloween would be the biggest candy event of the year.

Halloween is the holiday with the highest candy sales, followed by Easter, Christmas and Valentine's Day.

Halloween :)
Though it may fade since the number of trick-or-treaters seems to be dwindling... at least in my neighborhood....

Halloween.

I also pick Halloween (which happens to be my favorite holiday as well!)

But Valentine's Day is pretty good for candy too, I think. :)

Halloween

You can get bags of all green M&Ms now too.

I would guess Halloween.

Judging by how much candy comes into our house, I'm going with Easter.

I think Halloween is the leader in candy sales, and I'm sure I do my part, judging by the amount of candy I have left over!

According to the National Confectioners Number One Candy selling holiday is Halloween, Christmas is second followed by Easter then Valentine's Day and finally would you believe Mother's Day.

Definitely Halloween-my youngest daughter's birthday(which is kind of funny because she is a 10 yo who doesn't like candy-only a little chocolate from time to time but she hates everything else)

Halloween! I think Christmas is next, then Easter, and Valentine's Day. :)

My guess is Halloween. :) There just seems to be sooo much candy in the stores during Halloween.

Boo! Halloween is the day. I STILL have Halloween candy in my freezer.

Halloween! Though I didn't buy any candy this last year and don't plan to over the next two years.

Huh, you'd think it would be Christmas but apparently the correct answer is Halloween. Christmas must surely lead in *chocolate* sales? :) Mmm, chocolate...

I would vote for Halloween, then Easter and Mother's day.

Have you seen the green m&m's? they're supposed to be for valentine's day.

Halloween has the biggest candy sales. I would think Valentine's Day would at least come in second. Everybody gets candy on Valentine's Day, don't they?

I will guess Halloween. I was thinking that Easter would be, but alas it is third. I was always ready for Easter candy because I like Peeps and Cadbury eggs, but now you can get them for any Holiday.

I'm guessing Halloween.

Definitely Halloween. I can't believe that Christmas is so high up there though. That would be a lot of candy canes!

Halloween?

BOOOO!!! Halloween.

My guess would be halloween. Based on the amount of candy I buy and the amount of candy my kids bring home. What other holiday has 2-3 row of candy at the store?!? LOL. Now I want some pink M&M's.

I think its Halloween. :)
