What's New in the Shop this weekend?

 Matvey_the_cat

(color shown above is Matvey the Cat in Dashing Dachs)

Well, since you asked, we have another big shop update this Sunday evening at 6pm Pacific Standard Time. Dashing Dachs has arrived, as well as Zen String (and all of her new fall colorways!) We also have a few new Miss Babs colorways, as well as another big box of Mama Llama yarns. We hope to see you there!

Today we are posting the Union Center "Fall" colorway in the shop, which is a fun colorway to help launch the beginning of Socktoberfest, which  starts next Monday! This new colorway is brought to us from Joni at Union Center Knits, and is a unique, one-time only colorway that she dyed just for Woolgirl customers. I knit my first sock with the sport weight, and I must say, it's divine! The nice thing about the pattern I used also, is that it only takes 1 skein of sport weight! For questions about the pattern I used, please feel free to email me at jennifer@woolgirl.com. It's just a combination of a few patterns put together, so I would be happy to send you details if you need them.

Fall_sock_6

This colorway is available in both fingering and sport weight, and each skein will be unique. This means that each skein is a one-of-a-kind and just a little different from the next...there could be more green in one skein than the next, more yellow, more pink, etc. You can see what I mean by looking at the photo on the top of this post. Each skein is completely unique, so whichever skein you receive will be completely unique to you - one-of-a-kind! Also, once we are sold out, that's it! We won't be receiving any more of this yarn in.

We will; however, be having a fun contest that has to do with this yarn. I will announce more about it on Monday, but I will give you 2 hints: 1) You will be asked to submit photos of your completed "Fall" colorway socks and 2) There will be fun fall prizes! Stay tuned for more details on Monday!

Today we are also posting a few additional colors that Joni sent us to compliment this "Fall" colorway - Arbor I, II and III and Ivy. Isn't this one of the most gorgeous colorways you ever set eyes on? It's very limited, so if you want it, act fast! :)

Fall is here!

Fall_colorway

Fall is here, and as promised, with the start of fall we are introducing a fun fall colorway to help launch the beginning of Socktoberfest, which  starts next Monday! This new fun fall colorway is brought to us from Joni at Union Center, and is a unique, one-time only colorway that she dyed just for us at Woolgirl. I knit my first sock with the sport weight, and I must say, it's divine!

Fall_sock_2

You all know how I love my sport weight yarn! Union Center sport is about as good as it gets in my book! It's fantastic to knit with and with the color combinations in this yarn it's just perfect.

Fall_sock_3

We will have this colorway available in both fingering and sport weight, and each skein will be unique. This means that each skein is a one-of-a-kind and not like the next...there could be more green in one skein than the next, more yellow, more pink, etc. You can see what I mean by looking at the photo on the top of this post. Each skein is completely unique, so whichever skein you receive will be completely unique to you.

Fall_sock_4

We will also be having a Socktober contest to go along with this sock yarn, which will be announced when we post the yarn on Friday of this week! So you don't want to miss out on this!

A fantastic weekend

Anytime there's a fiber festival, you know it's going to be a fantastic weekend, and this weekend is one of those fantastic weekends. The Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival is this weekend, and I will be there, wallet in hand, ready to do some stash enhancing (especially since Blue Moon will be there!) I'm just itching to get my hot little hands on some Rocktoberfest, which is a colorway they had available last year and one that I want to get more of! I knit my sister a pair of socks out of Rocktoberfest last year, and she has asked for another pair this year. Yes, she's in love with this colorway and so am I!

Also this weekend...we are doing a huge shop update on Sunday evening! Speaking of stash enhancing, you may just want to check out some of the yarns we will will be adding...

1) Miss Babs Yummy Fingering, Sport and Worsted weight yarn. Some of my personal favorites include...

Hot Mamma

Raspberry Cane
Raspberry_cane_sport_yummy_up_close

and Woodland ViolaWoodland_viola_up_close_sport_yummy

2) Mama Llama DK Sock, Squish Sock, Bamboo Sock, hand-painted Jaggerspun Lace (Silk/Wool), and Seacell. We will also be adding some wonderfully fabulous Mama Llama patterns in the shop to coordinate with Mama Llama's yarn....one of my favorites:

Amelia

Also, as an added bonus, if you purchase the yarn that any of the Mama Llama patterns use, you will get the pattern free!

3) Dream in Color Worsted yarn + patterns
Yes, we finally received a box of this in the shop! We have more Smooshy sock yarn on the way too, but in the meantime, be sure to snag some of the worsted for your winter projects. It's gorgeous!

4) Pigeon Roof Studios
It's finally here in some lovely colorways! :)

5) Whimzy Pinzy Sock Yarn. She has included some fun fall colorways in this shipment - check this out!

I Hope to see you all on Sunday! Have a fantastic weekend!

As an added couple of photos for eye candy Friday, look at what Lindsay from Whimzy Pinzy sent me as a surprise! It was added to the top of the box that we just received from her. This yarn is handspun by Lindsay just for me, and it even says so right on the label! How wonderful is that? The yarn is just gorgeous and is in my favorite colors! Thank you so much
Lindsay!

It feels like fall

Fall_leaves

All at once it seems, it has turned to fall here in the Pacific NW. The days are cooler, the nights are a heck of a lot cooler, and the clouds are rolling in with higher frequency. Somehow I am ready for the fall already. Could it be that it was just spring and I was ready for the warmer weather and sunshine? Where did the summer go? I blinked and it was gone. I guess it's time to knit Abby a sweater too, as she's spending more and more time curled up next to me at night rather than sprawled out on her bed, legs up in the air, as she did throughout the summer. I'll put that on my Christmas knitting "to do" list.

With the indication of fall being here, I felt that it was only fitting to offer a wonderful selection of fall colorways in the shop from a variety of dyers (and we already have a few in stock!). Lots more of these coming in the next 2 weeks! And also arriving in the shop soon - in about a week - this new, one-time only, fall colorway series from one of my favorite dyers. I already cheated and started a pair of socks out of this loverly yarn...

Current_sock_2

This dyer (identity a secret until next week) dyed up a limited number of skeins for us to celebrate not only fall, but the start of Socktoberfest, which I hope you are each participating in this year! We will be running a series of fun contests throughout the month of Socktober (uh, I mean, October), and plan to put our speedy knitting gloves on for a marathon of knitting socks throughout the whole month!

I mean, isn't this yarn just gorgeous with the greens, pinks, oranges, yellows, teals, hints of red?

Watch for this to arrive in the shop sometime early next week!

Also, our Charlie Brown Halloween kits are being shipped out next week, and I can't wait to see photos of those socks popping up around blog land! This yarn from White Oak is phenomenal!

Oh, and we have a winner to announce! The Lobster Pot yarn winner is Wannietta! Thank you to each of you who entered! Wannietta, I will be contacting you via email very soon!

The Whale of Skein's destiny

Lobster_sock

After much debate about what the destiny of a portion of the Lobster Pot Whale of a Skein was going to be, I decided upon some socks - but not just any socks - Monkey socks. I have not yet knit this pattern (yes, it's sadly true) and I have been wanting to try it out. Especially since Neuroknitter keeps cranking out the Monkey socks! So...part of the skein will be devoted to Monkey socks. The other part - well...the other part is going to eventually be a nice pair of mittens to keep me warm this winter. Pattern TBD.

So, thank you to each and every one of you who made a guess as to the Whale of a Skein destiny! Those of you who selected socks of any sort and those of you who selected mittens of any sort will be entered to win a skein of Lobster Pot yarn in your favorite color. I will announce the winner on Wednesday's blog.

Lobster_pot_yarns_mix

Also after much time spent waiting for the Lobster Pot Yarns to arrive in the shop, they are finally here! I had so much fun opening up this box of cashmere! Stop by and check them out, if even to drool a bit.

We also received in some fun Spunky Eclectic fall colorways - some of my favorites incude....

(from L to R) Autumn, Scarecrow and Candy Corn

Aren't they just scrumptious?

Busy

Boxes1

It has been a busy last few days, but finally we can say that the first sock club shipment has been shipped! Woo hoo! I'm so happy that it's finally out the door and on its way to each of you! Enjoy! If you haven't done so yet, please check out the Woolgirl Sock Club blog for sock club updates and fun photos and conversation about the sock club!

So, as you can probably guess, knitting has not been on the itinerary for the past week or so, but that hasn't stopped me from adding more yarn to my stash, oh no siree!

Thelma_and_louise_second_photo

I just received my first installment of the White Oak Studio Chick Flick sock club, and let me tell ya, this yarn is fantastic! The first sock club theme was Thelma and Louise, and Jana really outdid herself with this shipment! WOW!

White_oak_bag

Thelma_and_louise_yarn_kit

The kit came with a cute sock project bag (made by Jana herself) that matched the yarn, along with a cute cowboy hat stitch marker and sunglasses. How cute is that? Jana, I love it! I can't wait for my next shipment already! :) I wonder what the next chick flick will be?

Rock_grotto

I received some gorgeous sock yarn, courtesy of Kristine at Curious Creek Fibers, for the sole (no pun intended!) purpose of knitting Woolboy some warm and luscious winter socks. This Rock Grotto colorway is just perfect, and I can't wait to cast on with this yummy sport weight yarn! Thank you Kristine!

Mama_llama_squishy_2

This gorgeous yarn from Catherine at Mama Llama jumped into my stash also..it's her Mama Llama Squish sock yarn, and it's 400 yards of pure heaven. It's 80% Lambswool/10% Angora/10% Cashmere, and even better yet, it's sport weight. Oh, did I mention we'll be getting some of this Squish yarn in the shop next week?

Miss_babs_iris_sport

Also arriving next week will be this fantastic new Yummy Sport Weight yarn from Miss Babs. This colorway happens to be the Iris, which is one of my favorites, but we will be carrying it in a variety of colorways.

And coming soon to Woolgirl will be a large shipment of Dashing Dachs (which is scheduled to arrive in about a week and a half), as well as White Oak Studio, Yarntini, and Zen String fall colorways! Lots of good stuff coming our way! :)

Hope you all had a Happy Wednesday!

Do you remember? Lobster Pot Contest

Do you remember this yummy goodness from last week?

Lobster_pot_3

This is the Lobster Pot Yarn "Whale of a Skein" in the Boiled Lobster colorway that I wasn't quite sure what to do with. Well...I have now decided what I am going to do with at least a portion of this bad boy, and I want to find out what your thoughts are!

What do you think I've decided to knit? Post your comments here for a chance to win a skein of Lobster Pot cashmere in your color choice (and we've got some fun colors arriving this week!!) The skein you will receive will include enough yarn to knit the project I am knitting (that's the only hint you will receive!)

You will have until Friday evening at 11:59pm to post your comments here. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

One final note for Woolgirl Sock club participants:
Sock club packages will be shipped out mid-week this week, and you will be receiving an email in the next couple of days with an invite to the Woolgirl Sock Club blog. Thanks for your patience!

One Fish, Two Fish, What do you Wish?

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish...that's the way the story goes, but in this story, I'm using only red fish, as they go nicely with my new red Lobster Pot cashmere. You all know how I love me some Sweedish Fish...well...I love me some Lobster Pot Cashmere too! This is the "Whale of a Skein" (yes, 740 yds of complete cashmere goodness!) in the Boiled Lobster colorway from Lobster Pot Yarns.

Lobster_pot_1

I've had my eye on this yarn ever since we first were even thinking about opening Woolgirl months and months and months ago, and now, after much anticipation, Lobster Pot will be here within the next week! Yipee! It is definitely one of the most drool worthy yarns around, so be sure to check out our color selection when it arrives next week!

Lobster_pot_3

So...now, the big dilema is...what to knit with this 740 yd skein of heaven? Any ideas? I originally had the idea of knitting a shawl or wrap for myself, but the awful truth is that I look completely and utterly wretched in red. It seems to drain every last ounce of color I have out of my face, regardless of the number of times I have tried or wanted to wear it. So, making a shawl, wrap or even a scarf for myself would be a complete mistake. Now, I could knit a shawl, wrap or even scarf for someone that I love; however, I am almost most positively sure that whatever I knit with this gigantic mass of goodness I will most certainly NOT be able to part with. So, that leaves me still searching for the perfect project for my Boiled Lobster. I am thinking that I would love a pair of socks knit with it - a fun pair of knee highs. Maybe some mittens would be nice? Maybe both? After all, I do have 740 yards.

What are your thoughts? Think about it deep and hard, as we're going to have a contest here on Monday about this very dilema, and Lobster Pot yarn is involved with lots of sweet goodness included. Don't miss out!

Now...on to some of the lovely yarns that arrived on our doorstep yesterday and will be posted in the shop on Sunday evening....

The always fantastic "Yarn Love". The gals from Yarn Love designed some fantastic colorways for us this time, and each and every one of them is rockin! Here's a sneak peek of just a few...

Autumn Festival...doesn't this just speak fall?

Autumfestival2

Bayfield Apple...this makes me yearn for Halloween!

Bayfieldapple

Mr. Wonderful...reminding us that we must knit for the man in our lives...

Mrwonderful

and Plumcake...if this doesn't speak goodness, I'm not sure what does...

Plumcake

Zen Yarn Garden also arrived with some goodness of her own, as well as Curious Creek Fibers and the delivery of their fingering weight sock yarn. All of this and much more will be posted this Sunday evening.

Happy Friday!
